Saving water in the bathroom

EcoSmart: Using water and energy mindfully

AXOR and hansgrohe faucets and showers equipped with EcoSmart feature a reduced flow rate compared to comparable hansgrohe products without this technology.
Depending on the product, water consumption can be reduced by up to 60%*. At the same time, the amount of energy required to heat water may also be reduced. EcoSmart combines reduced water consumption with comfortable use in both residential and public settings.

Sales success with water-saving products – Your arguments

  • The flow rate of EcoSmart products is technically limited. Depending on the product and usage scenario, this can help reduce water consumption. EcoSmart+ products feature an even lower flow rate compared with corresponding EcoSmart products, where applicable.
  • If less hot water is used, the amount of energy required to heat the water may also be reduced, depending on usage habits, the hot water system and the energy source. As a result, energy costs and CO₂ emissions may be lower.

Showers with EcoSmart technology – Facts and features

Daily water consumption from showers can be reduced by up to 60 percent with EcoSmart: thanks to a clever flow limiter, special jets, and the admixture of air. Many EcoSmart overhead and hand showers have a flow rate of 8 l/min, while some models are limited to 6 l/min (at 3 bar). A precision O-ring responds to changes in water pressure and regulates the water flow.

“Precision O-ring” in EcoSmart hand shower: when the water pressure is high, it makes the opening smaller. If it’s low, it expands the opening.

EcoSmart lavatory faucets – Facts and functionality

EcoSmart technology limits the flow rate of AXOR and hansgrohe lavatory faucets equipped with this technology to around 5 liters per minute. EcoSmart+ products have a flow rate of 4 l/min at 3 bar. How does it work? A special flow limiter reduces the amount of water flowing through the faucet. The EcoSmart aerator is integrated into the faucet spout and enriches the water with air. The result is a rich, bubbling jet of water.

Private bathroom customers: Reduced water consumption and everyday convenience

Many private bathroom customers value a conscious use of water and are interested in reducing the amount of energy used for water heating. One potential benefit for bathroom owners: lower water and hot water consumption can also reduce household costs, depending on individual usage and local water and energy prices.

Based on the assumptions set out below, using an 8.5 l/min hand shower instead of a reference shower with a flow rate of 15 l/min can result in annual water savings of 47,320 litres for a family of four. Based on the assumptions used in this example, including gas water heating, this could result in calculated annual savings of €439 in water and energy costs.**

Project business: Potential for reduced operating costs

In the project business especially, water and energy consumption can be important criteria when selecting bathroom equipment. In buildings with a large number of showers and faucets, the potential water and energy savings associated with reduced flow rates can increase with the number and use of EcoSmart products installed. And when it comes to EcoSmart showers and faucets, planners and architects can draw on the full product range, as they can choose from numerous complete ranges for the shower and sink.
